The Vermont Association of Nurse Anesthetists sponsored Melissa Lewis to attend the AANA Annual Conference in Orlando. Melissa is completing her first year as a nurse anesthesia student at the University of New England.
I was honored to be sponsored by the VTANA to attend the annual AANA conference in Orlando, FL in September of 2014. I had the opportunity to hear many interesting educational sessions where some of the topics included: local anesthetic pharmacology, pediatric trauma management, neuromuscular blocking agents, as well as an open ultrasound lab. I attended the business meeting and saw voting on important current topics such as: audio streaming of board meetings, electronic voting for absent members and important discussions related to future board recertification. I participated in the wellness 5K run and attended the student luncheon, the College Bowl and the Annual Banquet. Many of the CRNAs that I met throughout were motivational and supportive of myself as a student and other fellow classmates. At one point I was even able to meet the new AANA president, vice president and other members on the board. I saw the importance of becoming involved in the future as a CRNA from the experience of attending this meeting as a student.
